The Ontario Power Authority’s FIT and microFIT (Feed-In-Tariff) program presents an economic opportunity for home and commercial property owners who feed renewable power into the grid. The microFIT program covers installations of 10 kW or less, and emphasizes the role of rooftop solar power in Ontario’s energy future. The FIT program cover installations of 10Kw or more. OPA will pay program participants, who can either own or lease solar photovoltaic panels, a fixed price for the electricity they feed into the grid. OPA has set the prices at a level where participants can expect to earn a reasonable return on their investment over the lifetime of the program. Leases are guaranteed for 20 years.
